Fifields Construction recently completed extensive works at the Atwill Palmer Almshouses in Exeter. The project involved upgrading and restoring 24 Grade ll listed 19th-century Almshouses flats. In addition, the client wanted two new storey extensions added to the rear of the building.
The Almshouses is part of Exeter Homes Trust, and their main aim is to provide accommodation for those who are unable to stay in their own homes under any circumstances. We have a long-standing relationship with the charity, and we are always happy to help new or existing clients.
However, extensive groundwork was undertaken to supply new incoming services with external remodelling and new landscaped terraces and gardens to create a fresh new look to the almshouses.
The works included the demolition of the flat-roofed 1960s one-storey additions at the rear, replaced with energy-efficient two-floor extensions, with pitched roofs.
We initially provided refurbishment works to the existing buildings by fitting new glazing, floor finishes and decorations throughout the building in Exeter. Then, our sister company, provided the electrical and mechanical works, including, underfloor heating, modern shower rooms, ensuite toilets and kitchens.
We listened to our client's needs and requirements, and then we devised a detailed plan. Due to our wide range of multi-skilled team, we delivered the project on time and on budget.
The end result left the residents with modern, energy-efficient housing, upgrading the apartments, whilst retaining the distinctive character of a building with historical importance.
Our services include: new builds, refurbishment, restorations, dilapidations and fire doors across the South West region.
