Thornlea University of Exeter - 2025
During Summer term, Fifields Construction were appointed for the refurbishment of Thornlea, an art and drama facility for students.
​
The project included creating new toilet facilities, converting the existing costume store into a digital experiences laboratory, replacing the existing windows and carrying out M&E works.
​
The project was completed in accordance with the SKA Higher Education Assessment Manual which implements extensive measures designed to enhance project sustainability performance across all construction stages. This is being achieved through the combined effort of the client, design team and Fifields as Principal Contractor with the support of our approved suppliers for this project.

It's always great to work with the University of Exeter, especially four years in a row!

Evergreen, Matford Lodge NHS - 2025
Owned and operated by the Devon Partnership NHS Trust, Matford Lodge and Larkby are two Georgian detached houses converted into consulting rooms and offices. An extension called ‘Evergreen’ has been constructed between Matford and Larkby, joining the two buildings.

The works undertaken by Fifields over two phases comprise the creation of various clinic rooms, the creation of an accessible WC, a new OT Clinic Space and a new assessment room.

Honiton Golf Club - 2025
During early Spring 2025, we had the pleasure of working on the extension of Honiton Golf Club. ​
​
The project included a second storey extension to the clubhouse, new external covered balcony, the installation of fifteen fire rated doors, new roofing, elevation cladding and refurbished kitchen, bar area and WC facilities.
Fifields Construction built a great relationship with Honiton Golf Club, and during the Summer we had also sponsored the club's hole challenge!

Grendon Almshouses Phase 1 - 2024
Grendon Almshouses was completed for our valued customer Exeter Homes Trust. ​
​
Phase 1 focused on altering and renovating one block of 12 flats. This included relocating the residents to another block during the works. This phase included a full strip-out and a rear extension to accommodate new modern amenities such as new kitchens, utility rooms, and wet rooms. Energy-efficient features like double glazing and enhanced insulation were introduced. Additionally, a separate building in the garden was constructed to provide an outdoor ‘common room’ and is set to be open for residents in time for the spring.

The Grand Opening was celebrated by the Lord Mayor and the trustees of the Exeter Homes Trust.

Grendon Almshouses Phase 2- 2025
Grendon Road Almshouses is a grade ll listed building.
​
Grade II buildings are considered to be of special interest, and they have architectural or historic significance. It is important to restore these buildings as they are a part of our heritage and contribute to the character of our cities and towns. By restoring these buildings, we are preserving our history and ensuring that future generations can appreciate and learn from our past. Additionally, the restoration of Grade II buildings can help to stimulate local economies by creating jobs and attracting tourism.

The refurbishment has resulted in modern, energy-efficient housing for the residents while still retaining the building's historical charm. The apartments have been upgraded with new mechanical and electrical services, modern shower rooms, ensuite toilets, and kitchens.
​
During Spring 2025, the Lord Mayor, residents and Exeter Homes Trustees celebrated the grand opening!

Salvation Army Temple - 2023
In July 2023, FIfields Construction were delighted to commence a project at the Salvation Army Temple in Exeter, which comprised of an extensive external and internal refurbishment.
​
The project features a large scaffold system around each elevation of the building with extensive re-roofing works including the removal of existing roof coverings and associated materials to allow for the installation of new roof coverings and solar photovoltaic panels. Other external works include the clearance of existing rainwater goods and external redecorations.
​
Internal works comprise the complete refurbishment of the internal area of the building.
Extensive fire stopping work was undertaken throughout the building, including the supply and installation of new fire rated doorsets which will be installed by Fifields Construction and signed off under the companies Firas accreditation.
​

It was a pleasure to work alongside the Salvation Army.

Honiton Hospital
Our team were involved in the re-roofing of Honiton Hospital. Alongside the external works, we also carried out minor repairs and refurbishment inside.
The project consisted of the complete re-roofing of the hospital building, new pitched roof insulation upgrade to form new warm roofs throughout, a new former roof structure was also added to the rear elevation to improve access to the roof space to aid the NHS's ongoing maintenance.
The project was completed within a live environment.
Through the efforts of our site team and the close co-ordination of all those involved, we were able to deliver this extensive project in a safe and effective manner, delivering a high quality finish.

Atwil Almshouses
During Summer 2023, our team carried out the internal/external refurbishment of Atwil Almshouses, a historic building in Exeter.
​
The works were split into separate phases, with the first phase
comprising the demolition of the existing four ground-floor extensions.
Internal refurbishments of the eight ground-floor flats were completed,
which included new secondary double glazing, mechanical & electrical
services, kitchens and bathrooms.
Internal and external decorations were completed including new floor
finishes throughout the building.
Additional works included an element of external lime mortar re-pointing and rear garden landscaping works.
The second phase comprised the conversion and remodelling from eight
into five first-floor flats, providing two-bedroom flats with larger
living areas.
The end result gave vulnerable people in Exeter Devon an upgraded and modern accommodation.
Fifields Construction Exeter were pleased to work on this project and to see the result at the end of it.

Lampard School
In 2021, Fifields were awarded a project at the Lampard Community School, Barnstaple to undertake ‘Phase A’
comprising the internal refurbishment of the existing school and the replacement of the existing roof overlay.
Following the successful completion of ‘Phase A’ Fifields were able to negotiate the following Phases (B & C) which commenced in January 2022.
The Phase B works comprised the construction of a new build two-storey accommodation block, with associated hard landscaping and the relocation of the soft play area and sensory trail. The new build is comprised of a brickwork superstructure with new roof coverings, windcatchers and an external staircase to the flat roof.

The Phase C works comprised the conversion of the existing changing rooms into a single medical room.
​
Through the efforts of our site team and the close co-ordination of all those involved, we were able to deliver this extensive project in a safe and effective manner, delivering a high quality finish. The staff and pupils of the
school were pleasant and helpful throughout the contract phase and we hope that the local community benefits from this fantastic project we were honoured to be involved with.

University of Exeter - AV Works
During the last four years, our teams have been working at the University of Exeter carrying out important AV works. These works include:

1. 50no rooms refurbished throughout both Streatham and St Lukes Campuses.
2. Upgrade of audio/visual learning equipment
3. Removing various room walls to create larger more versatile learning spaces
4. Refurbishment of rooms including additional electrics, new floor coverings, new window blinds and decorations
5. Addition of new ventilation plant where required.

It's always great to work alongside the University.

Exeter Guildhall
During 2024, we worked closely with Exeter City Council to complete a vast amount of repairs across the Grade l listed building.
​
The works included decorating, repairing and alterations. ​
​
​

Rockfish Exeter
During Summer 2018, our team worked on the beautiful Exeter quay.
​
The project involved building a new Rockfish restaurant, with over 90 seats inside and a further 60 outside seating. This is certainly a beautiful location and is the perfect space for the new premises.
​
Rockfish Exeter features:

A glass pavilion design with a stone central section, blending old and new aesthetics.

An open kitchen, a bar, and an outdoor seating area.

Views of the river and canal, offering a coastal dining experience in the city.

A menu focusing on sustainable seafood.

Buckfast Abbey
Fifields Construction were awarded a contract in 2022 to undertake the repairs and redecorations to the 700 year old Grade I Listed property at Buckland Abbey in Yelverton.
​
The abbey is part museum and part house and features a rich historical background which has lasted through centuries, allowing the present generation to appreciate its natural beauty and historical significance.
​
The works at Buckland Abbey included scaffolding carefully designed and erected to two elevations of the building. Works carried out included masonry repairs to the existing chimney stacks, localised pointing
repairs, alterations and repairs to the existing pitched slate roof coverings and the repair/replacement of cast iron rainwater goods where required.
Other works included joinery and metalwork repairs to the existing windows and doors and redecoration of any previously painted surfaces.
​
The works were completed whilst the property and surrounding area remained occupied. Stringent site setup procedures were created, with rigorous health and safety protocols to ensure the safety of the occupants and
the general public.
​
Overall, the end result has provided the property with essential cyclical upgrades, improving the cosmetic and integral features of the building, with the client receiving a high quality finish which does not impact its overall
historical aesthetic.

Cockwood Primary School
Fifields Construction were proud to have been part of a project at Cockwood Primary School in 2023 to provide new teaching spaces and an extended library to the existing school.
​
The works comprised the creation of two new first floor extensions and extensive reconfiguration works to the ground floor area, allowing for a relocated staircase to improve access and egress to the new first floor spaces.
The project was completed across a period of 22 weeks, both in term time and during the summer break.
​
Working during the term time required Fifields Construction to ensure that comprehensive segregation and health and safety arrangements were implemented to ensure the safety of the staff, students and visitors.
​
Extensive safeguarding measures were also implemented, including a bespoke code of conduct for operating in the school and DBS checks for all site staff.
The construction works comprised the removal and safe disposal of the existing mezzanine, partitions, doorways, suspended ceilings and skylight.
​
The new installation comprised new foundations, structural steelwork, timber floor joists, a new staircase and a new timber roof structure as well as other various building works. The new extension features new external
cladding and rainwater goods throughout.
​
Other internal works included new stud wall partitions, extensive mechanical and electrical services throughout and new fire rated doorsets installed and signed off in accordance with the Firas regulations.
​
Overall, the school are thoroughly pleased with the new installation as well as the contract phase itself, which they remarked had been one of the smoothest construction processes they had been involved with.

Langdon Hospital
Fifields Construction are pleased once again to be working in partnership with the Devon Partnership NHS Trust and Kirkham Board to deliver a comprehensive refurbishment and upgrade project at Langdon Hospital in Dawlish.
The works at the Prentice Building, Langdon Hospital, Dawlish comprise the refurbishment of the existing kitchen facilities, cold store freezer, male and female WC's, mixed changing rooms and storage areas. The project will be delivered in three phases with external works to accommodate the new cold store freezer, internal works across eight internal areas include demolitions, new mechanical & electrical services, new partition walls, ceilings, decorations and floor finishes. A fit out of new commercial appliances will be undertaken by catering specialist Allsop and Pitts

Newton Community Centre
Fifields Construction were proud to have been part of this project at Newton Community Centre in 2022.
​
The new building replaces the old hut, and had been used as a community space for 30 years.
​
With a much larger space, the new facility features up to date kitchen and toilet facilities to improve visitor experience.
​
The new building is more energy efficient and has solar panels.
