Last year in 2024, we had the pleasure of planting 350 trees in the heart of North Devon to offset our carbon footprint.

A carbon offset is a way to compensate for carbon emissions by reducing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.

Benefits of Tree Planting:

1. Environmental Benefits: Trees improve air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. They also filter pollutants from the air and water, contributing to a healthier ecosystem.

2. Biodiversity: Planting trees creates habitats for various wildlife species, enhancing biodiversity and supporting ecosystems.

3. Climate Regulation: Trees help moderate temperatures, reduce urban heat, and combat climate change by acting as carbon sinks.

4. Soil Health: Tree roots help prevent soil erosion, improve soil quality, and promote healthier soil ecosystems through organic matter contribution.

5. Water Conservation: Trees play a crucial role in the water cycle, helping to reduce runoff, recharge groundwater, and maintain water quality.

6. Aesthetic and Recreational Value: Trees enhance the beauty of landscapes, provide shade, and create spaces for recreation and relaxation, improving mental well-being.

7. Economic Benefits: Planting trees can increase property values, reduce energy costs (by providing shade), and create jobs in forestry and conservation.

8. Community Benefits: Trees can foster community spirit, promote social interactions, and contribute to the overall quality of life in urban areas.

9. Health Benefits: Exposure to green spaces and trees has been linked to lower stress levels, improved mood, and better physical health.

Last year, we planted a variety of trees including oak, cherry and willow. These trees bring many benefits to our environment, including improved air quality where trees can absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, helping to improve air quality and mitigate climate change.
