We’re excited to have secured another project in Barnstaple! After recently working at North Devon District Hospital, we’re now on site at Brannam Medical Centre, just a few minutes down the road—an area we know very well now!
This project at Brannam Medical Centre will be delivered in several phases, starting with the transformation of existing waiting areas into modern clinical rooms and creating a new reception area, all aimed at enhancing patient and staff experience.
The second phase will involve transforming the current ground-floor office space to establish a compact new office, along with a refreshed waiting area situated in front of the redesigned reception area.
Phase three will consist of adapting an existing waiting area to create a new clinic room & a new minor operations room.
Refurbishing medical centres is important for several key reasons:
1. Patient Safety
Older facilities can have outdated electrical systems, poor ventilation, worn flooring, or non-compliant layouts. Refurbishment helps ensure the building meets current health and safety standards, infection control requirements, and accessibility regulations.
2. Infection Control
Modern healthcare design improves hygiene through better ventilation systems, antimicrobial surfaces, improved handwashing stations, and smarter room layouts. This reduces the spread of infections and protects both patients and staff.
3. Improved Patient Experience
A clean, modern, well-designed environment reduces anxiety and builds trust. Comfortable waiting areas, clear signage, and private consultation rooms help patients feel respected and cared for.
4. Staff Wellbeing & Efficiency
Updated layouts can improve workflow, reduce stress, and support teamwork. Proper lighting, ventilation, and ergonomic design help staff perform better and reduce burnout.
5. Technology Integration
Healthcare evolves quickly. Refurbishment allows centres to install updated diagnostic equipment, digital systems, telehealth infrastructure, and modern medical devices safely and efficiently.
6. Compliance with Regulations
Healthcare regulations and accessibility standards change over time. Refurbishment ensures compliance with building codes, disability access laws, and healthcare standards.
7. Energy Efficiency & Cost Savings
Upgrading insulation, lighting (e.g., LED), and heating/cooling systems reduces long-term operating costs and environmental impact.
8. Community Trust & Reputation
A well-maintained medical centre signals professionalism, quality care, and investment in the community.
In short, refurbishment isn’t just about appearance — it directly impacts safety, care quality, efficiency, and long-term sustainability.
We look forward to working with Devon Partnership Trust on yet another exciting project in Devon!
