A Recap of Summer 2025 at Fifields Construction Exeter

Where has this year gone? This year has gone very quickly with so many exciting projects being completed, or still underway.

It only feels like yesterday since we handed over Grendon Almshouses, and oh wow, that was a project not to miss for sure.

Please note, these are not all of our summer projects.

Thornlea, University of Exeter

Above is Thornlea, a project we started during the summer months. This building is an art and drama facility within the University of Exeter.

Fifields Construction were fortunate to work alongside the friendly staff at the University of Exeter again.

This project comprises the refurbishment and remodelling of the Creative Industries at the Alexander and White House Buildings which form part of the Streatham Campus. These buildings accommodate the communications, drama and film departments.

The scope of the project is to modernise and improve specified areas within both buildings to accommodate the requirements of the individuals undertaking a Creative Industry course.

The works include the remodelling of external items including the existing roof light to improve ventilation, the creation of a new unisex and accessile toilet facilities, conversion of the existing costume store into a digital experiences laboratory, sash window refurbishments and extensive M&E works and builders works in connection within both buildings.

The project is being completed in accordance with the SKA Higher Education Assessment Manual which implements extensive measures designed to enhance project sustainability performance across all construction stages. This is being achieved through the combined effort of the client, design team and Fifields as Principal Contractor with the support of our approved suppliers for this project

Exmouth Seafront Toilet Facilities

The Exmouth toilet facilities are one of the four toilet facilities that we are doing across East Devon. Each toilet has a prefabricated design and is fully equipped with suitable amenties for beach users.

Fifields Construction also carried the following works to other toilet sites in East Devon, as part of the same project:

• Honiton

• Budleigh Salterton

• Seaton

Honiton Golf Club

The Honiton Golf Club project is a second storey extension to the club house to provide an extension to the bar area and includes the addition of a new external, covered terrace balcony. There were also further refurbishment works undertaken to the remaining building including new roofing, elevation cladding, new and refurbished kitchen and wc facilities.

Grendon Road

It only feels like yesterday that we handed over Grendon Road Almshouses, but in fact, it was March 2025!

This has been an interesting project to work on especially with the building’s unique history & listed status. The project involved intensive refurbishment of the existing building along with the construction of new build extensions to the rear of the property.

The project team worked closely to ensure the project was delivered on time and to a high standard. It was great to get the team together with the client and the Lord Mayor for the grand opening back in March and to receive such positive feedback from the residents on the quality of their new homes.
