Extension and refurbishment of the existing visitors centre at Postbridge, Dartmoor
The project at Postbridge Visitors Centre comprised the refurbishment of the existing visitors centre, and the construction of a new single storey exhibition room.
The extension was created to provide additional space for the exhibition room, an enlarged entrance and improved internal circulation. Internally, works included a new staff toilet, tea making area and the replacement of all existing windows and doors.
Existing granite stone taken from Dartmoor was used to provide the external blockwork, complementing the surrounding area of Dartmoor which is known for its natural granite deposits.
The building features a sloping zinc roof with all associated guttering and fittings. Internally new electrical and mechanical services have been installed to suit the design.
Despite the many challenges of working in the middle of Dartmoor through some extreme winter weather conditions, the project was completed on time, within budget and to a very high quality thanks to the collective effort with the various project management and design teams.
